Animal vs Human grade MSM?

I am in the process of trying to find a larger quantity of powdered MSM in the Canadian city I live in. Most health food stores sell small bottles of it that, when you are taking 2-3 tbsp per day, goes very fast and is quite expensive.

I stumbled upon the fact that MSM is given a lot to horses and other animals when they have injuries and there is a local horse store here that sells MSM in 2 lb and 5 lb quantities at a reasonable price.

My question to anyone out there who might know is: Is there a difference between the MSM humans would ingest and what is fed to horses or other animals? In other words, would it cause me any problems if I took MSM sold by an equestrian company.

Thanks

My feeling is that there is no difference. That's just my feeling, a strong feeling, but don't take my word for it.

Thanks Mark,

The product I am looking at says that it is 99.9% pure MSM. Still don't know whether its okay for humans but am continuing to research and am going to call the company.

I really don't see how it would be different. Let me know if it is.

Thanks for that MSM link, juicespirit! Those are some pretty powerful claims about what it can do. I think I'm not taking enough of it. I take it in capsules.. maybe 6-8 each morning.

how do you like the capsules? im thinking of taking them. i know everyone says the powder is more effective but the thing is, im soo so bad at taking it, and i know id be better at taking the caps so really... for me, i think itd be more effective ;) is it really expensive though, having to take so many?

I have heard that MSM is MSM, but I am not sure if that is true. I buy mine from iHerb.com - the best and cheapest site for supplements I have ever found. The cool thing is they gave me $5 off on my first order by entering a promotional code: VAW769. I got most of my supplements from there to start this juice feast. I wish they carried Vitamineral Green and the other Health Force products, but I save a ton by buying my other stuff there. 5 pounds bee pollen for under $32! Yay! Although, I found the hemp oil cheapest on Amazon.com. It comes as a two-pack of 16oz bottles for under $17 including shipping if you sign up for their (easily cancelled or changed) auto-ship program. I was so stoked to find this place. I used to buy liquid calcium magnesium for my wife locally at Super Supplements for a little less than $11, but not get the same exact product with no tax and no shipping for $7.
