I don't know what kind of model you had that it was so terrible. Maybe a very early commercial model?.. or one which was damaged or abused? I dunno but what you are describing is nothing like the amazing BlendTecI have!
I chose a BlendTec Home last year after my son bought one and raved about it. I have no regrets!!! It's my favorite kitchen appliance ever! It's a work horse for sure.
It stays totally solid on the counter, is much quieter than the VM I used to own and there is certainly no juice flying out. I totally love my BlendTec.
Hey all, I just wanted to say that I ordered the Blendtec Ktec because I found it cheap on Ebay (cheaper then you can the Vitamix). I also looked at all the stats, and the Blendtec beat the Vitamix in every category. The only thing is, for juicing whole foods, IT SUX! The no tamper thing is a big deal. The fact that they say you don't need a tamper is BS. Sure it has power, and for cheap compared to the 3 HP vitamix or even the 2HP vitamix. But that is it! The controls on the vitamix are better, and the tamper makes it tons easier.
Also, I second the boat motor thing with the Blendtec. If vitamix is any louder then my blender then you would need ear protection, and that is not even a joke. I am dead serious. Furthermore, it is obvious why blendtecs go for less used. Vitamixes holds their value better. They have a longer warranty (by a whole four years!), and it doesn't turn into a boat motor.
I was quite dissapointed when I got my Ktec, and wish I had gotten a vitamix. Instead I am using a wood spoon as a tamper and wondering why I didn't just spend $50 more to get the refurb vitamix 5000 on their website. The settings are dumb too. All they do is try and guess at how something should be blended which really depends on what you are blending and how much. The best setting you get is "juicing whole foods" which I find less effective then just adjusting the speed myself. Maybe if they had a setting for "crazy juice feasters that overload the jar but still don't want their juice to overheat" then maybe it would be okay. But they didn't consider that one.
My Ktec rating: all muscle, no brains.
Maybe I'm just not using it right, but this video makes the Vitamix look way better to me.
Maybe they should've tried jamming craploads of celery and lettuce in the Blendtec on willitblend.com instead of an IPOD. Would've been a more realistic demonstration.
Well I own a BlendTec, and I just adore it. I've never had a single complaint, and I wouldn't trade it for anything! It's my most valued piece of kitchen equipment, hands down.
My parent have a vitamix its a great machine, and I wanted one for years but after a demo of the blendtec I was converted and I'm so happy I did cuz my blendtec would kick you vitamix'es #!* in a blending compatision. It comes with a 3 year warrenty but, if you by it threw costco it comes a 7 year warrenty.
I brought a vitamix 3600 used for $100 in 1983. I use it every day and it works fine. I had to replace the blade and bearing two years ago. ( so much for warrenties) the updated bearing cost $75 from the factory. Vitamix has very good customer service. You can easily make a tamper, All it is a 3/4" dowel with a 3/8" dowel through it set at a hight just above the blade.Noise and vibration has not been a problem.
I personally like the BlendTec better. I do need to preface that by saying that I do not own a Vitamix, but have a friend who does. I LOVE my BlendTec. I love all of the different settings. I use the smoothie setting for smoothies (when I am not juice feasting) and the whole foods juice setting for juicing. It works wonderfully, just press the button and go right on getting the nut mylk bag ready and jars and cleaning up or whatever. The only thing that I think would come in handy is that the Vitamix has the plunger stick thing that can push the foods down when they kind of get "stuck" and I have to take the lid off and poke with a spoon (after stopping the cycle mind you). But it is no problem and all said I do not regret one bit purchasing the BlendTec and would do so again.
