Alcohol and Juice Feasting

Hello all.... I know this seems like such a strange question when we are doing such wonderful healing things with our bodies...... I have a "bachelorette party weekend" on May 29-June 1st which will include a bridal shower and bachelorette party at a night club. I want to partake in the festivities which will include champagne, wine and maybe some cocktails at the night club. I was thinking of ending my feast 4 days early so I could transition into food and be back on my raw diet by the time the weekend comes so that I don't get sick from being totally on liquids HOWEVER, I also am feeling like I DON'T want to stop the feast and STILL have alcohol AND juice. Does that sound crazy?? Are there any thoughts or suggestions or constructive criticisms you wish to share? Has anyone ever encountered this or is everyone on this site pure and clean that they have no desire to drink anymore??? Thank you so much for your input and I look forward to your responses!!!

Your question is not strange. It is one of making a choice in your lifestyle.Whether you stop the feast to be able to drink alcohol,or eat SAD for an occasion is a challenge. You have chosen a raw vegan diet to become healthier. This alone makes you different. In the eyes of some of the people around you. Living in California you probably have more raw vegans around you for support. ( I have to drive 300 miles round trip to go to a raw potluck). I stopped drinking alcohol and smoking when I was 35. I was in the Navy and it was hard to convince people that I didn't drink or smoke anymore. I have been raw for six years and it is hard to convince people that I live a raw lifestyle. I have friends that drink and smoke. In fact I just came back from a 7 day cruise with 19 people and 14 of them drank and smoked. I went off the juice feast for the cruise but was able to eat vegan and get at least 8 oz of fresh veggie juice a day which cost me $5.00 the same as an alcoholic drink. What are the benefits of my lifestyle? I turned 68 on May 2. I take no prescription medication not even aspirin. I can walk 6 miles in 1 hr 40 min. I sleep well and have fun with my grandkids.I am healthy and I am enjoying life.Do you plan on going back on the juice feast after the wedding? You can still partake of the festivities without the hangover. I am speaking from exrerience. The temptation and challenge will always be there. Just like McDonalds. Enjoy The Mad Cowboy.

I would be very careful as your body will be very clean and sensitive. If you drink alcohol at this point you run the risk of becoming very ill. It also might be hard on your liver, as your liver is already filletering the junk that is being dumped through the juice feast. I am basing this soley on the fact that my liver enzymes shot up during my first month of juice feasting.

Two yrs. ago, I did an 18 day juice fast (this was before I knew what a juice feast was). I drank fresh fruits and vegetable juice all day and then did the master cleanse in the evenings complete with big shot of vodka mixed in. I totally had a drinking problem at the time, but after 10 days w/out alcohol, I said screw it and started adding booze back in. It's true that you probably won't feel great if you do drink, but it also won't kill you. Your liver is so marvelous right now....I'd just really think about it. If you decide to drink while juice feasting, I'd take it real easy....little sips here and there. I know all the purists will tell you, NO NO NO, but you are going to do what works for you.

All the Best!

I would say it would depend on your liver more than anything... I know my liver is damaged from all I used to drink, and if drank now it would probably kill me... you're sort of playing a little russian roulette, but that goes for everything doesn't it? There is not much in life we actually know for sure, and like papjoe says, it's amazing that you are even doing this... many people would like to, but a lot of people just couldn't, for various reasons. You could always start again. I had to stop and start again after my second week, because emotionally, I just wasn't dealing.

They are both right. And I don't think it will kill you, you just might not feel well. Which you probably wouldn't if you were going to drink that night anyway. Just be careful! It is probably just is bad to have a meal of junk food in the middle of your feast! (which i did)! Listen to your body. And whatever you decide, don't let it stop you from getting right back on track! A lot of us have started and stopped for various reasons.....me, I have had a hard time giving up my final vice...food! Pizza and chocolate in particular!

Not crazy at all, your body has a volume that has been speaking louder to you since you have been treating it well on the juice fast.

I would say forgo it if you can as it isn't ideal. I went out with a friend last night and while she had a mixed drink, I had mineral water with lime. Having said that, if you have a glass of wine, it wouldn't be the worst thing.

WOW!!! All of your insight and wisdom is amazing. I think I will do my best to keep forward and also be loving and accepting of myself if I do cave in but then get right back on track. I have agonized over this for a little while but now that you all have shared the agony is gone. Thank you so much for taking your time to respond to my question.

I'm thinkin you need a longer cleanse if your wanting to go drink that just doesn't sound like the lifestyle and health that we as juice feasters and raw foodist or just people trying to improve our health for the long haul want from life at any point, but this is also coming from someone who has not ever drank and most my friends don't either, I have a crazy personality that doesn't need any stimulant. A party without alcohol can still be fun, honestly the smell of alcohol makes me sick. Hang in there keep going you will feel so much better about yourself. Bring your juice in a flask put it in a fancy glass and act tipsy you can fool everyone and maybe yourself.

I agree!!! That is definitely the direction I'm going to take. I normally drink if there's an occasion (like a party or something) but I havent drank in about 6 months. I was at a family get together and people were eating and drinking so I decided to have a drink.... I felt buzzed really quickly after that drink and havent had one since. I'm thinking maybe I won't even want to drink once the party rolls around at the end of the month. I'm going to take your advice and try to bring a juice in with me to the nightclub and see if they allow it. I'll tell them I'm on a special diet! Ha

You could probably get the juice at the club or ask for a virgin margaritta or drink of your choice. that was what I did at a friend's birthday party on the cruise. nobody could tell the difference and clubs and bars willingly accept the fact that some people don't drink.
