I've been reading so much about the juice feast and - terrified and exhilarated at the prospect - am planning to do 21 days in May.
What I haven't got my head round is where I'm going to source all the greens that I'll need (as well as the other fresh produce). I already consume a lot of greens in smoothies and salads, but nothing like the quantity I'm going to need. I grow my own spinach and pick dandelions and nettles, supplemented with organic spring greens from my local farm and kale from supermarket.
How are people getting on sourcing these quantities of greens and fruit and veg? Where do you shop? How often?
Welcome....its great that your planning well ahead as we all know how time flies when having fun!
Fab that your getting in a lot of greens already and that you grow your own supply...
I get my greens from my local farmers market and whatever they dont have I get from the supermarket waitrose or tesco's. I made a personal decision to purchase organic and local, so it really depends on your own personal circumstances and budget. If you live close to a farmers market i would say thats your best choice, as you often get end of day stock! and if you buy in bulk on a weekly basis ask if they would organise a special price for you!!
Hope that helps...
Thank you, Michelle. Great to hear from you - and feel part of all this exciting activity!
Don't have a local farmer's market, but I do recall that there's a monthly one somewhere fairly local to me. Will definitely check that out. I get an organic box delivered from a local farm. I'll speak to them and see if I can buy in bulk. They're not so good on the greens, though - better at the root veg.
How often are you having to shop for supplies? I'm imagining having to top up at the supermarket every couple of days.
I see you're in the North West. I'm in South Yorkshire and we also only get a farmer's market once a month.
I have bought some stuff wholesale from The Organic Pantry in North Yorkshire. There are a couple of organic farms in North Yorkshire that might deliver in your area.
I get my greens from my local organic green grocer and I have set up an order to keep me on track for a certain quantity each week. I am however starting to notice the dandelions peeping through and the nettles etc so am looking forward to supplementing with some of these good old wild weeds. In fact I also got some hawthorn leaves today and am planning to add these to my juice in the morning.
Great to 'meet' you. I'm still on track for starting 1st May. Started practising with the enemas (!) and having a big green juice every day. I'm enjoying using the dandelions that have popped up in my garden in copious amounts! I'll contact my local organic farm shop and see what they can offer in the way of greens.
hi Victoria!
Im new too, starting on 19th April though have been transitioning for 2 weeks. Hate to plug a corperation but needs must - tesco are doing reduced prices on celery, white cabbage, carrots and romainian lettice, all organic as well as pinapple which i think was mentioned. perfect!
Really excited to hear from you and can't wait to hear how you're getting on. Thanks for the Tesco tip!
I'm starting May 1st cos it's my boyfriend's 40th next week and we're off to Edinburgh for a long weekend. Going to try the new raw food restaurant there and it didn't seem fair on him for me to be juicing and detoxing at this point in time.
I am practising with wild green juices and enemas, though. Interesting...
Restaurant sounds exciting, great to have some in uk now.
I started feasting but wasnt comfortable so Ive modified my feast to include raw salad meal in evening and my body has responded amazing well, im detoxing a bit slower and feel im more able to acheive a three month period this way. Yippee!
Cant wait to hear how you get on, im inspirired by everyone trying to cleanse through juices, it seems like a different world from how most people eat and view their health so im glad to meet you and others on similar paths.
