There are many reasons why people are overweight – stress, lack of exercise, lack of knowledge concerning correct nutrition, over-worked, laziness etc. But I believe one of the most potent reasons for overeating is emotions. It is a well-known fact that we all have emotions, in fact, since we came out of the womb we have expressed emotions: we usually come out with a cry then we begin to smile, laugh, and as we grow we become more expressive of our emotions; we love, we hate, we fear…there are a whole catalogue of emotions that we express during our lifetime.
Emotional eating is one of main reasons for overeating but there are specific emotions that lead us to overeat. The common ones are loneliness, stress, comfort, revenge, self-hatred, apathy and many more. I was listening to a radio show the other day and heard an interesting fact which was that the MOST common emotion for emotional eating was not in fact depression or loneliness as many of us think, but.........
